In this section you’ll find a selection of articles that should fill in most of the blanks about roulette. Take a look at our Ultimate Roulette Glossary, for example.

Whether you play roulette for real, or play roulette for fun, you are playing a game that has lots of history (it’s one of the reasons why we like it so much). So we take a look at some of the characters that have coloured the game over the years, as well as films an books that have played a major role in developing the roulette “culture” that we all know today.

And, while we focus on online roulette games on this site for obvious reasons (we are called onlineroulette.org.uk after all), we also take a look at some of the places that you can play roulette- whether that’s Las Vegas, Macau or Monaco.

Players Who Broke the Casinos

Some of the most famous roulette players we have come across in our research include Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo (the guy who took the casinos in Madrid to the cleaners), Joseph Jagger (the man who broke Monte Carlo in 1873) and Charles Wells (the man who broke Monaco after Joseph Jaggers!)

And while we’re at it, we take a look at some of the world’s most finely crafted wheels, such as the TSC JohnHuxley roulette wheel.

Crazy Bets

Then there’s the stories of individuals who made crazy bets in Vegas (one-offs in many cases) such as Chris Boyd who bet $200,000 on the red. Not something that we would recommend, but luckily he pulled it off. Ashley Revell was another one who lumped down $135,000 and pulled it off.

You know what? We really would recommend that you don’t try these if you play virtual roulette at home. I bet there are at least the same number of stories of people who lost the lot on one huge spin- but these kinds of stories aren’t quite so popular!

And the axis of roulette is changing. It used to be all about Las Vegas as the spiritual home of roulette: Monaco. But these days, the sands are shifting and the money is moving online and to fast growing gambling hubs like Macau, Singapore and, who knows, we might see Japan opening up in the near future. With modern day smartphones, the latest roulette software and connection speeds, these games ain’t half bad!
